Pearl Jam album ‘Backspacer’ release date announced at last

After much debate in previous blog posts there is finally some news on the release of Pearl Jam’s self released album – I even got taken in by a bootleg CD advertised!

Ever since Pearl Jam announced they had terminated their 18-year association with Sony there have been many rumours as to the album’s release. Some thought the album would arrive unannounced.

However, the album ‘Backspacer’ has now been given a tentative release date of September 22nd 2009 and will be released through Target department stores in the US – as well as through the Pearl Jam website: http://www.pearljam.com/

Other ways to release the album are currently being looked at by the band.

A track has already been announced for the album, ‘Got Some’ and this is expected to be released in July.

This is good news as at least we will have the chance to hear at least one of the new tracks before the mini UK tour in August. I was lucky enough to get standing tickets for the Manchester date through Pearl Jam’s Ten Club.

The band was on Conan’s Tonight Show in the US and held up this piece of cover art. More news to follow soon.
