My Top 3 Rock Movies: No 1. Wayne’s World (1 & 2)

Ok, so it’s actually two movies rather than one, but I’m making the rules here. The idea first started as a recurring sketch on Saturday Night Live in the US. Wayne’s World first became known to viewers in the UK through 10minute episodes on BBC2, which were in fact extractions from the SNL show. That is how I first came across Wayne’s World.

The premise of both movies are fairly straightforward; the first movie (1992) revolved around heavy metal fanatic Wayne Campbell and his best friend Garth Algar and their cable access show ‘Wayne’s World’ which was held in Wayne’s basement. The show is soon spotted by a TV network and Wayne fins a girlfriend in Cassandra. The second film (1993) continues the adventure as Wayne and Garth plan a rock festival called ‘Waynestock’.

Both films may not be critically acclaimed, but they were films that I loved during my teens and even today are really fun to watch. Each film has a great rock soundtrack as well, featuring; Alice Cooper, Bad Company, Robert Plant, Queen, Aerosmith, Black Sabbath, Joan Jett and Jimi Hendrix among others.

There are so many memorable quotes from these two films that put them up there with some of my favourite movies of all time. Its place in pop culture legend is assured. All that’s left to say is… We’re not worthy!
