Green Day Musical out in September and Rock Band announcement

Recent news surrounding Green Day has generally centred on two topics.

Firstly, Green Day are set to debut a musical based on the concept album American Idiot in September. Even the band themselves including Billie Joe admitted to the New York Times it “doesn’t make a lot of sense”. I can’t really disagree with that admission really. A musical based on this year’s 21st Century Breakdown would make more sense – with the more varied and developed storylines. However, for Green Day fans like myself it would certainly make for an interesting night out. The American Idiot musical will premiere on September 4th at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre in California, US and will run until October 11th.

The other bit of GD news has been known for a while, ever since Billie Joe let it slip in an interview. An agreement has now been struck to bring the music to Rock Band. Long overdue I might add. I don’t actually have the Rock Band game but have played the Guitar Hero series a lot, but as the GH controllers on the PS3 are generally compatible I’m tempted to pick up the game. The first downloadable songs will be released as a DLC three-pack; ‘21 Guns’, ‘Know Your Enemy’ and ‘East Jesus Nowhere’. They will be available online from July 7th. Hopefully more GD content will be available soon. I’ll keep you posted.
