No sooner than the story breaks out about Courtney Love stealing songs from Billy Corgan, the Hole singer, best known for being married to the legend Kurt Cobain, reveals that she once had an affair with Gavin Rossdale of Bush.
Who knows why she chooses to break this news now, live on US television the other night. But I’m sure Gwen Stefani who is married to the Bush frontman would like to know a bit more from her husband about these claims.
Love has been in the public spotlight a lot this past week with her ongoing feud with Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins taking place on Twitter. This all stems from the fact she allegedly used songs without his consent.
Whatever the truth to this and her sensational claims about Rossdale, Love is certainly someone whose intentions you can never really be sure of.
Most Glasto-goers will no doubt enjoy the varied mix of acts that perform at the festival these days. However, many purists still recoil at the thought of urban acts such as Jay-Z and this year’s Snoop Dogg being added to the bill.
The famous festival was renowned for drawing in classic rock artists as well as folk acts, but now the mix seems to be moving away from this, despite rock giants U2 and Muse being added to the line up for the celebratory 40th year of the festival.
The change in emphasis for the type of acts recruited to play the festival has divided those that go to the festival year on year. Many will not stop going because of this, but would still rather see more artists like Vampire Weekend, Willie Nelson and the Flaming Lips than the Scissor Sisters and Dizzee Rascal.
At least rock music lovers have a choice. Maybe this accounts for the rise in popularity of events such as Download.
It was almost a year ago when I was discussing the remote possibility of Soundgarden ever getting back together, despite looking at ways to re-release their old material. However, after successfully navigating a secret gig as ‘Nudedragons’ (an anagram of Soundgarden) last week, the band is all set to headline Lollapalooza in August.
What a remarkable turnaround for a band I thought I’d never see reunite. And here they are complete with all the band (Chris Cornell, Kim Thayil, Ben Shepherd and Matt Cameron) rehearsing and playing music together again.
The band members have all been relatively successful with their own side project, so it is great news to hear that Soundgarden are reforming. It’s time to get listening to those distinctive Grunge sounds again from one of Seattle’s most talented exports.
Stairway To Heaven has been announced by digital radio station Absolute Classic Rock as the UK’s most loved rock song.
The song, which was released in 1971, gained a new following after featuring prominently in recent popular culture. None more so that in the hit 90s movie Wayne’s World where Wayne was told he could not play the song in the music shop.
The track, which is a key benchmark for any wannabe guitarist, topped the poll with The Who’s Won’t Get Fooled Again coming in at number two.
Here are the songs that made the top 10:
1. Led Zeppelin - Stairway To Heaven
2. The Who - Won’t Get Fooled Again
3. Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
4. Led Zeppelin - Whole Lotta love
5. Deep Purple - Smoke On The Water
6. The Who - Baba O’ Reilly
7. Led Zeppelin - Rock ‘n’ Roll
8. Free - All Right Now
9. The Beatles - Revolution
10. The Rolling Stones - Gimme Shelter
