If you were one of the lucky ones who managed to get Rage Against The Machine tickets this morning, then well done!

It has been announced that all tickets for the surprise event, which is a reward to fans who helped the band to get to the Christmas Number One slot, had been allocated by 1.30pm.

The date for the gig is set for June 6th and will take place in Finsbury Park in London. Fans could register for tickets at Theragefactor.co.uk but unfortunately they have all gone.

Also, it is best to be aware not to buy tickets from touts or auction sites as all tickets will be issued with photos.

The annoying thing about rock music cover songs

Posted on 17th February 2010 by Daniel Higginbotham in Other

One of the things that really infuriates me - and shows my age too, I guess - is when a cover version of a perfectly good classic rock track is released and all the kids immediately refer to the latest song as the definitive track.

A good example of this for me is when Joe McElderry sang a version of Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey on the X Factor. Okay, he didn’t release it officially as such - mainly because Journey wouldn’t let him - but he still made most people I spoke to think of the song as his own.

I did like Metallica’s version of Whisky in the Jar, however, so it goes to show that it is not always bad - just when the song is covered by a pop star or band!

Nickel (back) or Pickle?

Posted on 16th February 2010 by Daniel Higginbotham in News, Other

Are you one of those who are angry about the continued success of Canadian rockers Nickelback, or are you one of its many fans across the globe ready to stick up for the much maligned band?

If they haven’t done anything else, the band have certainly gained coverage for dividing opinion amongst rock fans everywhere. Their legion of fans can’t get enough of them while their detractors hate the very mention of their name alongside the term ‘rock’.

The Facebook group set up to prove that there are many in both camps has gained almost one million members. The protest group against the music churned out by the soft rockers is called ‘Can this pickle get more fans than Nickleback?’

Well, it may not have more fans on Facebook than the band just yet (913,000 to Nickelback’s 1.4million), but it is certainly closing the gap…

Green Day’s American Idiot hits Broadway next month

Green Day fresh from their Grammy Award success of 21st Century Breakdown are to bring their American Idiot musical experience to Broadway starting March 24th, 2010.

As an avid Green Day fan I really want to see the Michael Mayer rock show that has received rave reviews since it opened in California last year. Now it is moving to New York there is more of a chance UK fans can go and see it, especially with cheaper flights to the East Coast of the US than the West.

Tickets are on sale now and you can get them from the official Green Day website.

Mojo is new music mag leader

Posted on 12th February 2010 by Daniel Higginbotham in News

The classic rock magazine Mojo has now topped the list for the most sold music magazine, having beaten its rival and sister title Q. Other such as NME, Metal Hammer and Kerrang! have noticed a drop in sales over the past year.

Uncut was in third place while Classic Rock followed closely behind. This just goes to show that there is still a clamour for rock-based music mags and rock music is still going strong into 2010.

There are many great festivals to look forward to this summer such as Download. If you are going to any festivals this year let us know which one you are looking forward to the most.
