So we have come to the end of the first month of the year and there has been quite a bit going on this month!
Joaquin Phoenix has made us cringe and then laugh, Slash has fought for his right to party and an Osbourne has been arrested. But what about the other news that didn’t quite make it to the blog this month?
Metallica are apparantley plucking away at some new tunes and riffs.
80’s rock metal band, London, are set to reunite with a tour this year.
U2 are performing at the Grammy’s along with Kid Rock and Robert Plant.
Super Furry Animals have nearly finished their 9th album. I’m on the edge of my seat for that one!! (I don’t think)
The Killers, along with Paul McCartney and The Cure are to headline at Coachella in 2009.
Depeche Mode are putting the final touches on their 12th studio album. I know what you are asking. . . . And I didn’t know they were still together either!!
After we recently posted the article and the hilarious video of Joaquin Pheonix rapping badly followed by his fall of stage, it turns out it could all be part of an elaborate scheme to make other actors and well established A-listers not take themselves seriously!
I mus admit, I did NOT see that one coming what so ever. I thought it was going to be one of those awful turns for a very respectable person who plumets into the e-list celeb list following awful choices made but it turns out I was completely wrong and I am very happy to admit it.
The hoax is all part of his own idea. A source close to the actor quoted Phoenix.
“It’s a put-on. I’m going to pretend to have a meltdown and change careers, and Casey is going to film it.”
Casey being Casey Affleck, Joaquin’s brother in law. He will be documenting this big “fall from grace” with Joaquin continuing with this big joke in a bid to make the A-listers wake up and realise they are not royalty or people we should bow down to.
After all, it was Joe Public that put them there in the first place!
We say well done to Joaquin and keep up the hilarious work!
It’s a sad day for all of us as we hear the news that a rock star has been killed. The former guitarist of Lizzie Borden, Corey Daum, also known as Corey James, was killed in the early hours of Saturday morning, 24th January 2009. The accident took place in Nashville, Tennessee and a man has been arrested and charged with vehicular homicide.
Corey unfortunately passed away at the scene which was on the Interstate 40. The vehicle was being driven by Charles Wolford who has admitted to drinking alcohol.
The vehicle, a Ford Explorer, had driven over 3 lanes to get onto the on ramp of George L. Davis Boulevard and then drove straight into a concrete wall. With none of the passengers wearing seatbelts, it was a tough lesson to learn. Wolford has no serious injuries but Ravin Wells, another passenger, is in a stable condition.
When are people going to learn that life is not something to be taken for granted and safety precautions are there for a reason? Seatbelts save lives.
Another point to make would be the stupidity of driving while under the influence. These people need to learn their lesson. Unfortunately for Wolford, he has a lifetime ahead knowing that he was responsible for killing a friend.
Our thoughts are with Corey’s friends and family.
Here is the man himself in one of the Lizzie Borden videos, We Got The Power
Well folks, I have heard it all now!! Famous lead guitarist Slash and his wife Perla Hudson have been to court to speak with a judge about having the right to party! The judge has ruled in their favour so they are now allowed to proceed with their lawsuit being filed against their brokers. They have filed this lawsuit as they deem their previous house unsuitable to party in.
They have stated that the property was misrepresented and mis-sold as the real estate company, Gregory Holcomb and Sotheby’s International Realty by stating it was “a good location to hold parties”
After the misrepresentation of the property in question, which was bought in 2006 and then later sold again in 2007, the couple are suing for over $1,000,000 in punitive damages. There claim is that the property was smaller than it was originally advertised and had insufficient parking facilities which hindered their options in parties and the amount of people that they could entertain.
The ruling has been in their favour so far but it will allow the agent to dispute the case.
If it wasn’t fantastic enough that The Prodigy are releasing a new album and that Dave Grohl from The Foo Fighters is drumming on one of the tracks, I can tell you that they are headlining atthis years Isle of Wight Festival!
The Ting Tings and Basement Jaxx have also been confirmed and will all be playing on the first day of the festival on the main stage which kicks off on the 12th of June.
This festival is getting bigger and bigger ebery year. Last year saw the Sex Pistols and The kaiser Chiefs on the main stages for just over 50,000 people. The Rolling Stones, The police, The Who and Coldplay have also performed in previous years.
It is the eighth year the festival has been running for now and the organisers say it will be the most electric year yet.
The Isle of Wight Festival was originally started many years ago when acts such as The Doors, Jimi Hendirx and Bob Dylan frequented the stage. With a big revamp the festival is getting stronger and stronger each year with big acts all signing up to play there.
April 21st 2009 will see the first ever feature film of Iron Maiden hitting our cinema screens.
It will be called Iron Maiden: Flight 666 and is going to be a documentary style movie tagging along with the heavy metal rockers. It will be from the worldwide Somewhere Back In Time tour from the start of 2008 where they had sell out stadium concerts.
It has been recorded by Banger Productions, a Canadian documentary filming company who have won many awards and they were giving complete access across the tour covering on and off stage antics.
There will be footage of their live performances and all the behind the scene action including on flight recordings from thier own customised Boeing 757 which is flown by the bands front man, Bruce Dickinson.
The next part of the tour will be continuing in February though to March and the band will be playing some of theb largest stadiums which will no doubtedly be sold out.
I saw Iron Maiden at Download a couple of years ago when they headlined on the main stage on the Sunday night. Apart from the interesting bonfires that were being set at the back of the crowd and the firefighters that kept coming to put them out, they had my full attention. They were amazing live and put on a fantastic show.
I can’t wait to see the film myself and I think it will show a side to the band that we haven’t seen before.
After a successful career in Hollywood, Joaquin Phoenix decided to retire from movies altogether and start a career in music. His many roles have included Max California in 8mm, Commodus in Gladiator, Johnny Cash in Walk The Line, Merrill Hess in Signs and Lucius Hunt in The Village all of which he has work alongside some of the greatest actors which he ha now left behind him.
His switch into music came as a bit of a shock to us all at the time but last year, after working with Tim Burgess of The Charlatans, Tim stated that the album Phoenix was recording was brilliant.
With that in mind we are asking why on earth has he decided to go into rap music? Although not one of my favourite genres of music, I have nothing against rap and respect the artists who do it well. But you wouldn’t put Phoenix down as a rapper. Phoenix did make a comment on this:
“This is me saying this is who I am. This is my story. After all the years of reading scripts and reading lines, this is my chance to do something straight from the heart and put it out there.
“When I was young I liked punk rock music but then I discovered rap. I love the storytelling aspect of hip-hop. Are there people out there who think I’m a joke? I’m sure there will be. Are there people who think it’s going to suck? Probably, but I can’t worry about that.”
But, after a recent performance at a Las Vegas nightclub, lets just say audiences were a little gob smacked when he performed 3 songs and then proceeded to walk of stage an then fell off altogether! Just in case you don’t believe me, here’s a little video for you!
A couple of weeks ago, there was a news story released about Sharon Osbourne allegedly attacking a swimsuit model after she heard her making unfriendly comments about her husband, the legendary Ozzy Osbourne.
Kelly Osbourne
It seems to be running in the family as news has now been released about their daughter, Kelly Osbourne, having been arrested for assaulting a journalist.
The journalist in question, Zoe Griffin who writes for the Mirror, had written an article about Kelly’s fiance, Luke Worrall, stating he didn’t know what an earthquake was. Kelly did not take kindly to this and slapped Zoe’s face in August last year.
Zoe Griffin
The police authorities haven’t released Kelly’s name but they have released the following statement.
“I can confirm that a 24-year-old woman attended a central London police station by appointment at 3 p.m. on January 2 … She was arrested for common assault relating to an alleged incident in Soho in the early hours of 29th August 2008. She was bailed to attend a central London police station on a date in March.”
No one knows why it took so long to make the arrest but word i that the police wanted to make sure it was Kelly herself who carried out the “assault” and not a lookalike.
We hope it is sorted out soon and they can both put it behind them. Maybe the papers and media should stop antogonising people by making up stories just to make sales.
I’m probably a bit late in posting this but I though it was so amazing that I just have to write about it. I have been sitting at work wondering what to write todays article on when my colleague mentioned listening to Radio One and hearing a song that was a collaboration of songs all using just 4 chords. Apparantley you can sing thousands of songs over this one set of 4 chords, in the same order and they all work.
On hearing this, I decided to spend my time browsing the internet trying to find this song, if it was on the internet at all. My mistake! This song is everywhere so why haven’t I heard of it already! I must have been in a world of my own, (Which most if not all of my friends will tell you is probably true.) I have listened to this sone and watched the video and it’s pretty cool. It’s played by a guy called Benny Davis who is a musician in an Australian band called The Axis of Awesome.
Apparantley this video has been around for a while but I still want to share it with you just in case you haven’t seen it yet. I would love to know if anyone can name all the songs he plays!
I have recently been looking at a lot of band web sites including the more legendary bands who have carried on performing over the years and have been amazed at the transformation from one look to another. Looking at Def Leppard from the blog posted yesterday, they look so much better now than they did all those years ago when they first came onto the music scene.
I know that times have changed and they have personal stylists now and fashion is a lot more understated when it comes to live music but we do have to have a small giggle at some of the costumes which we all thought were fabulous at the time.
Lets look at David Bowie as an example. He wore some outragous stuff as Ziggy Starudust but now, even though he is still performing, he is toned down completely and lets his music do the talking now, going from patterned t-shirts and sequin trousers to suit jackets, jeans and t-shirts.
Do we need less outrageous clothing on our icons now or is this another reason why our music industry isn’t creating rock idols anymore. The Darkness got it wrong with their spandex jumpsuits but you knew who they were the instant anybody spoke about them. Are record comapnies making the styles too boring or should we be just listening to the music and not worrying so much on the image of our bands today?
